This week's Rule 5 submission is Anne Hathaway in honor of her casting as Catwoman in the final installment of Chris Nolan's re-imagined Batman series.
Fanboys pissing in their Cheerios are forgetting that when the initial casting of Michelle Pfeifer as Catwoman back in the Tim Burton era of the franchise came out, everyone was highly dubious of Michelle's ability to pull off that character. But her portrayal has since been deemed iconic, and therefore, the standard for the character.
My opinion is that under Nolan's successful direction, Anne's character will be just as powerful, though perhaps not as obviously kinky, as Michelle's. But who knows? Maybe Nolan's got another side to him we've yet to see.
Though I have to admit, his casting of the unimpressive Katie Holmes and subsequent casting of Maggie Gyllenhall (whom I actually like for her fearless role choices in her career) have made me wonder if Nolan is any good with female characters. It's a possibility I suppose.
